VISA 200 Introduction to Printmaking

This studio course is an introduction to the basic techniques, terms, concepts and formal strategies involved in Printmaking.  We will investigate a variety of processes of image transfer including relief printing, collagraph, intaglio, and screen printing.  These processes will illuminate aspects of contemporary art specific to printmaking, including image transfer, the multiple, and the role of reproducible images in our culture. In all cases, printmaking will be studied as a means toward expression or the communication of meaning.  In this course we will work to produce and reproduce singular images into print editions.  This is an art class, but much attention will be paid to the craft involved and needed in printing.
